DESCRIPTION:It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John R Meyer on March 11th\, 2023. John was an exemplary friend of Sri Lankan Amateur Radio and a dedicated member of the RSSL. He was made an Honorary Member in 2014 for his contributions towards the RSSL\, and we are deeply grateful for his unwavering support and commitment to the amateur radio community in Sri Lanka. \nJohn’s dedication to Sri Lankan amateur radio was evident in his efforts to assist Sri Lankan hams in securing transmitting equipment. He and his club\, the North East Wisconsin DX Association\, worked together with 4S7VK to donate over 40 VHF\, UHF and HF transceivers to Sri Lankan hams through his program called “Rigs For Sri Lanka”. This program continued right up until the end of 2022 and helped many Sri Lankan hams get on the air. John also secured the Mark4 VHF repeater for the RSSL along with a Hustler G7 antenna which he hand-carried and presented to the RSSL. We will always be grateful for his generous contributions to the Sri Lankan amateur radio community. \nJohn’s dedication to Sri Lankan amateur radio will always be remembered\, and we shall miss him very much. We offer our deepest condolences to his XYL Cindy and his family. We will be holding the VHF Net on Thursday\, March 16th in memory of John\, as a token of our appreciation of the work he did for Sri Lankan Amateur Radio. We shall record the proceedings of the net and forward it to Cindy. Check in and share your memories on 145.625/-600 or 145.650/-600 or 4S7RS-R on Echolink. \nJohn was an accomplished DXer and an ARRL Honour Roll member and an official DXCC card checker. He visited Sri Lanka four times and operated under his 4S7NZG call. On his last visit\, John said it would be his last as the journey was getting too hard for him. I (the writer\, 4S7VK) came to know John in 1990 through Shortwave Listening. I visited his home on every visit to the USA since and he was my guest on his visits to Sri Lanka. \nRest in peace John\, and thank you for being a dear friend of Sri Lankan Amateur Radio. \nPlease send your condolences via text message only to his XYL.
