The Radio Society of Sri Lanka operates a network of VHF repeaters, HF beacons, and digital gateways across the island, providing communications facilities for licensed amateur radio operators and supporting emergency communications when needed.
VHF Repeater Network
Pidurutalagala — Active
Located at the Civil Aviation Authority site at the summit of Pidurutalagala, the highest point (2524m/8281ft from ASL) in Sri Lanka, this repeater forms the backbone of the RSSL repeater network.

Yatiyanthota — Active
The Yatiyanthota repeater is the RSSL’s mainstay and serves the amateur radio community exceptionally well. Located at the ITN transmitting station at an elevation of 4,290 feet (1308m) above sea level, this site has a fascinating history — it served as a communications centre for Canadian forces during World War II.
The repeater runs approximately 5 watts into a Diamond 3-section colinear antenna, providing excellent coverage across the Western Province — the main population and amateur concentration in Sri Lanka — and covering almost a third of the island.
This repeater was a generous gift to the RSSL from an Italian amateur radio operator group. 4S7PVR/G0USK was instrumental in securing it for the Society.

HF Beacon — 4S7B
RSSL hosts one of the Northern California DX Foundation (NCDXF) international HF beacons in Sri Lanka. The beacon operates under the callsign 4S7B and transmits automatically on a coordinated schedule across several HF bands, providing propagation reference data to amateur radio operators and researchers worldwide.

Echolink Gateway — 4S7RS-R
The RSSL operates an Echolink node (4S7RS-R) running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, linked to the RSSL repeater network. This allows licensed amateur radio operators anywhere in the world to connect to the RSSL network via internet-linked radio.
To connect, search for 4S7RS-R in the Echolink directory.
RSSL VHF Net
The RSSL VHF Net runs every evening at 9:00 PM Sri Lanka Time (15:30 UTC) and is accessible via both the Pidurutalagala and Yatiyanthota repeaters. The two sites are linked via a UHF link on 438.600 MHz, effectively forming a single extended-coverage network.
Different net controllers take the net each evening. SWL and VHF listeners across the island are welcome to send in signal reports — contact details at rssl.lk.
