CODE YELLOW READINESS LEVEL

ALERT: CODE YELLOW READINESS LEVEL FOR POTENTIAL ADVERSE WEATHER

Due to the heavy rainfall currently affecting Sri Lanka, the Radio Society of Sri Lanka (RSSL) has officially adopted a CODE YELLOW readiness level as part of our disaster preparedness plan. This is a proactive measure in response to the possibility of adverse weather-related incidents.

In light of recent events, particularly the floods across the island, we are urging all licensed radio amateurs to be on high alert and prepared to act as communications volunteers if required.

As announced earlier, the RSSL, in collaboration with the Amateur Radio Civil Services Network (ARCSN), has developed a Strategic Frequency Plan for Disaster Preparedness. This plan ensures we are collectively ready to provide swift and effective backup communications when disaster strikes.

What You Need to Do Now:

Monitor assigned frequencies: Stay tuned to the designated emergency frequencies for your region as per the Strategic Frequency Plan.

Keep your equipment ready: Ensure your radios, antennas, and backup power supplies are in working order. Check your signal strength and test your communication setups.

Stay informed: Continuously monitor weather alerts and RSSL updates.

Prepare to mobilize: Be ready to assist in emergency communication networks if required. Your participation could be critical in providing vital communication links during the potential floods or other emergencies.

We encourage all radio amateurs to adopt this readiness plan to ensure smooth, efficient, and coordinated communication efforts in the event of a disaster. Your role as a member of the amateur radio community is invaluable in times like these.

Together, we can ensure that Sri Lanka remains prepared, informed, and supported through reliable communication when it matters most. Stay safe, and let’s work together to provide crucial assistance during any potential weather-related crisis.

Stay tuned for updates. Thank you for your dedication and support!
